This page is not going to be the usual sea of blue underlined links so common to the Internet. A link appears here only if I deem it valuable. Please e-mail me or create a post in the forum if you are aware of a particularly useful link or if any of the links below no longer work.

Little Navmap
Little Navmap by
Alexander Barthel
What FS Navigator was to FS98 through FS2004 (or FS9), Little Navmap by Alexander Barthel is to a wide range of simulators across multiple platforms. The functions are very similar to FS Navigator, but the myriad of features far exceeds what FSNav could do. It is highly customizable, uses OpenStreetMap by default (which can be changed to several other map styles), and can even pull and display AI aircraft or other fellow pilots if you're connected to our multiplayer servers, VATSIM, and even IVAO. It rivals what one may find in an EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) like Foreflight for Apple iPads or Garmin Pilot for android-based tablets.

At the time of this writing, the current stable version of Little Navmap is version 3.0.17. You can find it at this gitgub address. And it's 100% free!

C-47 V3
Douglas C-47 V3 by Manfred Jahn,
Jan Visser, and team
Jan Visser, Mark Beaumont and team started it all with the MAAM-SIM R4D-6. Sadly, MAAM-SIM did not keep up development of that wonderful aircraft, but Jan teamed up with Manfred Jahn to produce this jewel of an aircraft, and it's freeware! This package has proven to be one of the best DC-3/C47's ever created for Microsoft and Lockheed-Martin sims and is still the go-to for a lot of our pilots. It works very well with FS9, FSX, P3D v4, and v5. It takes three separate packages to bring the MJ C-47 up to date. Be sure to download all three files from Sim Outhouse using the links below.

Main Package: MJ C-47 v3.12
Update to v3.14: V3.14 Beta
Final Update: v3.14 Fixes

Aeroworx C-47 Office

On the X-Plane side of things, one needs to look no further than the Aeroworx C-47 Dakota for XP10 through XP12 created by our very own Johan van Wyk and Fred Stegmann, through Aeroworx. This aircraft was ported for X-Plane from the Manfred Jahn/Jan Visser C-47 and is absolutely stunning! You can't beat the price, either; FREEWARE! There are other C-47's available, such as VSkyLabs and LES (both payware), but they can't hold a candle to the Aeroworx creation. You can download the latest version at XPlane.org.

Trev Morson
Trev Morson's DC-3 Hangar website is the largest, most complete single source of DC-3 information on the Internet. The site is chock full of facts, procedures, photos, stories, drawings, news and links. Trev constantly adds new material to his site and I return to it frequently.

A strong base of DC-3 enthusiasts contribute material to The DC-3 Hangar, keeping it fresh. You should check back to Morson's site often to see what's new.

VATSIM
We encourage DC-3 Airways VA Pilots to use the services of VATSIM, which has replaced SATCO, since they closed in early August of 2001. VATSIM provides real-time air traffic control as SATCO did in the past. DC-3 Airways is a VATSIM affiliate. Our pilots will fly under the call sign "Airways" and the VATSIM airline ID of "DCA." To participate in VATSIM, registered pilots must first download Swift Pilot Client, a free software program. VATSIM Controllers communicate with pilots via voice through Swift and/or text messages, also through Swift.

Those new to Online ATC should go to VATSIM's technical articles, VATSIM Instructions and then click on the "Get Started" menu item along the top of the screen.

MSFS Gateway
The MSFS Gateway Page is a recently discovered website that has been a God-send for me. It lists, describes and categorizes over 200 popular MS Flight-Simulator links, including most of my favorites. Gone are the frustrations of searching my out-of-control bookmarks to find the URL of a frequently-visited flight-sim website. But beyond that, I learned of other valuable websites worth a visit. Webmaster Tony Smith has personally visited every site, and they appear on his website only if he deems them valuable or interesting.
California Classics Webpage
Tom Gibson's California Classic Airliner Page is just that, a Classic. I visit Tom's website often, simply to find out what's happening in the world of prop-airliners, whether it be aircraft, panels, sounds, scenery, flight tips, or news. Not only is Tom's website jam-packed with valuable files and information pertaining to prop-liners, it's just plain interesting.
AirNAV.com
Better than the FAA Airport/Facility Directory
The Government prints a seven-volume Airport/Facility directory listing all public airports in the continental US, with descriptions, plus navaids.

The same sort of thing, but more inclusive, is available on-line, at AirNav.com. It is an independent, free resource, with the same currency dates as the US Government publications. The on-line data is broken into three categories, Airport Information, Navaid Information, and Fix Information.

This is a great resource and I go to it almost every day for some sort of information. Once you've used it, you'll rely on it, too.

fsACARS
Click the image to visit our
development page.
We use fsACARS on a strictly voluntary basis. It is a freeware project created by Garen Evans. Here is Garen's description of this project.
FSACARS is a Windows-based program to help automate flight reporting for users with Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-Plane. It was developed specifically to be free, easy to use, and fully functional. Quickly submit accurate flight reports with comprehensive data, including landing rate, block and time aloft, fuel used, crash/slew/pause detection, among others. First developed more than 20 years ago, FSACARS continues to log thousands of flights every year. Our core model continues to evolve, and new versions have been developed to support different needs, including helicopters, vision-impaired pilots, and custom builds.

Among some of the features recently added are;

  • Auto-start and auto-stop timer
  • Dispatch system (looking at adding charters and routes for easy selection)
  • New ACARS map (work in progress)
  • Freeware!

You can visit the fsACARS website for more information, but do NOT download fsACARS from there unless you want to do a lot of configuring. The fully-configured package for use with DC-3 Airways can be found at our DCA fsACARS page.
