In the 1940s, the US Civil Aeronautics Board proposed "feeder" airlines
to cover short-distance, low-density routes. Surplus C-47s had become
available in large numbers after World War Two and were a perfect fit for
that duty, although the airlines deemed it better to call them DC-3s.
Here are the routes of eight regional airlines. All but L.A.B. Flying
Services flew DC-3s. And special thanks to the DCA pilots named below for
their fine contributions.
