Use the TR1 Panel variation for the Type-Rating Flights.
Training Panels TR1 and TR2 have over-size gauges for easier flying and
navigation.
For Variation 3, "N1776 with R4D panel" to appear in the aircraft list the
R4D, version 4.75, must be installed in your computer before installing this
Company DC-3. Furthermore, the R4D aircraft folder must be named Douglas
R4D-6.
If you have not installed the R4D you still will have access to
variations 1 and 2. The Readme file explains how.
Close the aircraft door and place the pilots in the cockpit by turning ON
the Nav Light Switch located on the overhead panel, left-side.

Aircraft Designer - Jan Visser. Panel by Bill Rambow and Roy Chaffin. Flight Dynamics by Erik Ellis, Jan Visser, Roy Chaffin, Ian Ropper, Brian Withers, and Bill Rambow.
With over one-half million downloads, the R4D-6 is the most successful
aircraft in flight-simulation history. Its popularity is no accident, but
rather a tribute to the great skill and creativity of the R4D development
team; Bill Rambow, Roy Chaffin, and Jan Visser.
Here's how to install this gem for FS-2002.
You may install the FS2002 R4D either from a donation-ware CD, or by
downloading the free files from the Internet. Be aware, however, that a
$5.00 R4D-maintenance fee may be required for a key to enable flights of
longer than five minutes when installing from downloaded files.
If you have purchased any previous version of the R4D CD, the key will be
provided free of charge. The maintenance fee is allocated to a fund to
replace the engines of the MAAM R4D. The R4D team receives no part of this
fee.
See the readme file in the v4.75 file for information on how to receive the
key for free if you had purchased any previous version of the R4D CD-ROM.
Let me tell you in advance: the FS2002 sound file is awesome. There simply
is no other word to describe it. Alan Landsburgh is the sound man. Also, the
R4D team slightly modified the aircraft's flight characteristics based on
discussions with actual DC-3 pilots. The R4D now glides more like an
aircraft in the approach configuration, descending less like a brick.
Install the R4D from the CD-ROM
The FS2002 R4D is on CD versions #6 and later. To order the CD, or for more
information about it, go to the MAAM
on-line store.
In addition to the R4D files, the CD also includes three World War II era
Pilot's Manuals, 130 color classic warbird photographs, a video of MAAM's
R4D-6 in flight, hundreds of close-up photos of the R4D cockpit, and the
Aircraft of the Mid Atlantic Air Museum book. Quite a bargain.
The version #7 R4D CD-ROM (those sold after mid-December, 2001) provides
one-click installation of the FS-2002 compatible R4D. Version 7 includes all
of the updates, modifications, and new designs for a fully-functional
FS-2002 R4D, including the Autopilot update and fully-illustrated, detailed
R4D-6 Autopilot Manual. The read_1st.txt file on the CD describes the
installation procedure.
If your CD-ROM is version 6, the first CD to include the FS-2002 R4D, then
you must separately install the Autopilot upgrade after you have installed
the FS-2002 R4D (see the AP Upgrade instructions later in this section).
Then download the AP Operation Manual. The read_1st.txt file on the CD
describes the installation procedure.
Install the R4D from downloaded files.
Installing the FS2002 R4D with files downloaded from the Internet is simple,
but one must explicitly follow the instructions in the various Readme files,
or all could go wrong. Not trying to scare anybody here, just stressing the
importance to carefully follow Bill Rambow's well-written instructions.
Take note again of the requirement stated above to obtain a registration key
for the panel. The cost is $5.00 unless you have purchased any previous R4D
CD-ROM in which case it will be free. The readme file explains all of this.
You need four files from the Internet for a proper installation. Download
the first three files in the list below from either www.avsim.com or
www.flightsim.com:
The order that you install these files is critical.
Congratulations, you now have an FS-2002 R4D that is a delight to the eye and ear, and a thrill to fly.

This is a 21 MB file, so be patient. Roy Chaffin cautions that we DO NOT
use a download accelerator as it may corrupt the zip file.
Be sure to read the manual which is included in the download. Several
features differ from previous aircraft created by this team.
