In order to eliminate as many variables as possible due to things like
taxiing from parking to active runway, etc., WR pilots are requested to
record start clock time (or start timer) and record start total gallons of
fuel on board just before applying throttles for takeoff from the active
runway of the departing airport. And upon landing at the arrival airport,
exiting the runway, and immediately coming to a full stop, the stop clock
time should be recorded (or timer stopped) and the stop total gallons
remaining on board should be recorded. Note: To avoid possible timing errors
due to crossing time zones it is recommended that UTC (Zulu) time be used
rather than local time.
To calculate PIREP reporting data take the stop clock time minus the start
clock time (or the total timer time) and convert to whole minutes. And the
total gallons consumed will be the start total gallons minus the stop total
gallons.
As you can see pilots wishing to go through startup routines, clearances,
and taxiing to and from gates can do so without affecting their PIREP flight
data unnecessarily so, thus helping to make flight data averages more
consistent.
World Rally 2008 pilots will be required to record their total flight
time in minutes, fuel usage in gallons, and file a single flight report
(PIREP) for each of the 10 WR flights as they are completed. These
individual PIREPS should be sent as an email to
dc3airways@yahoo.com with the
flight data appearing in the subject line of the email. Text will not be
required in the body of the message although flight comments will be
welcomed. It is important that the flight data be entered on the
subject line in the following
format exactly by padding numbers with leading 0's where necessary to have
the required digits:
Two digits of the WR flight number (space) three digits of WR pilot number (space) minutes (space) gallons
If there are any comments I need to see about your report please explain in the text body and just add a space and a C to the end of the report in the subject line of the email. That will get my attention and tell me to read the comments. Here's a sample of what a corrected PIREP with comments would look like in the subject line:
If there are any problems or questions concerning your PIREP email it
will be replied back to you with an explanation of the problem along with
instructions to make corrections.
Filing PIREPS well in advance of their due dates is not only acceptable but
encouraged. Any late PIREPS will also be accepted up until the closing date
of the WR but only the data from PIREPS filed on time will be used to
establish averages for each of the flights.
Please DO NOT file individual WR flight reports in the DCA Auto PIREP System (APS). At the completion of the WR you will be given a chance to file a single APS PIREP for credit for your total minutes flown in the WR. The flight number for that PIREP will be WR2008.
