U.B.A. was formed in 1948 by the Burmese govt and private investors to
represent the newly formed country which had seceded from the British
Commonwealth. Domestic services were started with DC-3’s from the capitol of
Rangoon (now Yangon) to various chief cities of Burma (now Myanmar). In 1950
international services were started to Chittagong, Bangladesh, and Bangkok,
Thailand. In May, 1955, UBA ordered Vickers Viscounts for use between
Rangoon, Calcutta, and Singapore (note the timetable that these flight plans
are based off of is dated Oct ’55 and the -3 is still in use on these
routes).
UBA was renamed to Burma Airways Corp in the early ‘70s and ran under that
name until 1988. In the late 1980’s Burma underwent political upheaval and
the country was renamed Myanmar, the national airline was also renamed; now
being Myanmar Airways.
You will notice that some of the city names on the timetable jpg don’t match
what is in FS9’s flight planner; here is a table of name changes (old name
on left, new name on right):
Some of the routes between same cities will have 2 different FS flight
plans, 203-1 and 205-1, both to Sittwe from Yangon, for example. This is
strictly for variety; I actually have no idea what path they took but hope
I’m somewhat close.
Like many airlines in the then expanding world of air travel, unfortunately
not all air crews and passengers made it home safely.
